Sea grape – Coccoloba uvifera

Family: Polygonaceae

Description: A shrub or small tree growing up to 8m tall, with long and flexible branches. Leaves are large, heart-shaped, leathery, glossy, dark-green up to 15cm long with wavy margins. Flowers are white and fragrant. Fruits are pear-shaped, reddish purple, and dooted green, in clusters resembling grapes.

Distribution: Native to the West Indies and South Florida.

Economic Importance: Planted in parks and gardens.

  I wouldn’t advise eating anything without consulting food experts (as you may be also allergic to the fruit, or there may be pesticides used without your knowledge.) 🙂
