Bakauan Gubat – Carallia brachiata
Family: Rhizophoraceae
Description: A tree with a Christmas-tree form growing up to 15-20m high and a diameter of 50cm or more. Bark is dark brown and smooth. Leaves are mainly terminal, opposite,darker green and lucid above. Flowers are yellowish green. Fruits are subglobose, fleshy, lemon-yellow, 5-8mm long.
Distribution: Scattered all over the Philippines.
Habitat: From lowland rain forest up to 1,800m altitude.
Economic Importance: Wood is generally good for heavy construction and also for making musical instruments. Tree form is lovely for gardens and landscaping.
Ecological Status: Rare
