Kalumpit – Terminalia microcarpa
Family: Combretaceae
Description: A tree reaching a height of 35 meters and a diameter of 120 cm. Bark is dark brown and ridged. Leaves are simple, smooth, oblong to broadly obovate, 6-15cm long. Flowers are small, yellowish-white and white and borne on slender spikes growing from leaf axils. Fruits are strong, laterally compressed, 2-angular, wingless, rather hairy.
Distribution: Luzon to Palawan and Mindanao. Also Java.
Habitat: In primary and secondary forest at low and medium altitudes.
Economic Importance: Wood is used for light construction; fruits for wine making and also has medicinal purpose.
Ecological Status: Indeterminate.
