Macarthur – Ptychosperma macarthurii
Family: Palmae/ Arecaceae
Description: Clustering, slender palm to 8m tall with a light gray smooth trunk, to 5cm in diameter. Leaflets have irregularly jagged ends up to 30cm long, margins are ribbed. Flowers are small and numerous, borne on branches beneath the leaves. Fruits are numerous, ovoid, turning red-reddish black when mature 1cm in diameter.
Distribution: Native to New Guinea. Introduced to the Philippines in the early 1900’s.
Economic Importance: Used as an ornamental in gardens. May also be used as an indoor plant.
