Almaciga – Agathis philippinensis
Family: Araucariaceae
Description: A large pine tree growing up to 50m high and trunk up to 3m in diameter. Bark is gray, smooth and exuding resin. Leathery leaves are opposite, broad, lanceolate to ovate up to 7cm long and 2cm wide. Five cm long male cones are cylindrical; female cones subglobose up to 8 cm long. Seeds are winged and oval shaped.
Distribution: Most parts of the Philippines.
Habitat: Primary forests 200 – 2000m above sea level. Occasionally cultivated in loowlands.
