Bolong-ita – Diospyros pilosanthera
Family: Ebenaceae
Description: A tree growing up to 20m and a diameter of 50cm. It has a greenish-black bark; light red inner bark. Flowers are dingy white, fruits are yellow-red with several black seeds. Observed to flower during March.
Distribution: Widely distributed in the Philippines
Habitat: Low and middle altitudes in forests.
Economic Importance: Wood used for fancy woodwork and furniture. Bark has reported medicinal properties.
Ecological status: Depleted due to logging and kaingin-making.
