Philippine Indigenous Plants

Indigenous tree species have evolved in the same area, region, or biotype where the forest stand is growing. These trees have adapted to the specific ecological conditions of the area.

Increasing use of Philippine indigenous tree species has been growing and augments the value and economic importance of these species. This in turn encourages sustainable management of this particular forest resource.

Our collection of native plants have been selected especially for their beauty and aesthetic value for ecological centers, parks, and gardens. Some of these native plants also have reported medicinal and nutritional value.

      Our popular flowering trees for your consideration are: red tabebuia, red banaba, catmon, potat, bayag usa, cerbera, adelfa, calachuchi, coral tree, pink tabebuia. champaca. For flowering shrub we may recommend ardisia.

    We are in San Pablo and have tidied up the subdivision roadside with creeping peanut plants. we have space for 7 or 8 flowering trees and would be grateful for your recommendation, a row of Purple Jacarandas would be my choice but doubt whether the management would appreciate the maintenance in the long term. suggestions please?

      Our indigenous trees are native to the area (not adapted).

      Further studies are needed to explore their adaptability to extreme conditions in other countries (desert conditions, winter conditions, etc.)

      You are welcome to visit our farm any day from 8AM-5PM.

      We would always promote research for the use of kawayan tinik (and other good reforestation varieties) for upland reforestation especially in areas where majority of Marikina River valley flood comes from. 🙂

    I also bought a catmon seedling from your nursery four years ago. It was about a foot and a half tall when I got it from you guys. Today, it’s just a little below four feet tall. It produced a couple of flowers two years ago, but it has since stopped doing so. Some of its leaves have wilted. It’s planted a few meters away from a couple of lanzones trees, a chico tree, a rambutan tree, a kamias tree, and two cacao seedlings. I tried fertilizing it once, but it didn’t seem to do much. I fear that the catmon’s growth is getting stunted. Should I move the seedling to a different spot?

    Hi! I had been trying to do some research on Philippine wild plants because I thought the species are about to be extinct. when I came back to the Philippines last year; I tried to find suchwild plants which fruits I used to pick and eat when I was a kid. One of the plants is called aluni or alunit in Ibanag and the other one is called macola. Aluni has small black fruits when ripe, the biggest of which is about a quarter of an inch. The shape is flat globe-like a squash. Macola have beautiful strong pink color when ripe. Both fruits are really sweet. I hope you could help me identify the common and scientific names of the plants. I hope they are not extinct yet. Thank you…and may God bless you more!
