Lipote/ Baligang – Syzygium polycephaloides

Family: Myrtaceae

Description: A tree growing up to 15m high and 90cm in diameter. Leaves are opposite, with narrowed base auriculately rounded. Strong midrib with 14-18 pairs of conspicuous nerves whose tips form a definite submarginal vein. Flowers are whitish usually in 3’s. Fruits are irregularly globose, fleshy, reddish-purple. Flowers observed May-June.

Distribution:Luzon (Cagayan, Tayabas, Laguna, Camarines, Albay, Sorsogon), Mindoro, Samar, Leyte.

Habitat: Primary forests, low-medium altitudes.

Economic Importance: Fruits are edible and made into tart jelly.

Ecological status: Rare and under cultivation.

Good, I’m very much interested. May I know the available quantity and how much per seedling? Also, if I may ask, is there an advantage over marcot/grafted over seedling in terms of fruit bearing waiting time? I’m not a farmer but I want to the tree to bear fruit bruit in shortest time.

Hi
I’m Ren I’m based in NZ, originally from Laguna. This morning I woke up craving for Lipote 😅. When I was young I remember getting this fruit in the forest with my childhood friends.I’m looking for lipote plants for sale within Laguna online but non come up only the Cainta nursery. If you have available plants I would like to buy a dozen or more and my sister will pay and pick it up for me.
